The Mayor Tororo Municipality John Opio has appealed to all those responsible for child protection to ensure that all school going children receive at least basic Education and stay at school.

The Mayor made the appeal while addressing LCI chairpersons and a section of Police Officers during a two day workshop on rights of children at the youth centre yesterday.

Opio noted that the number of kids loitering Tororo town streets is overwhelming and this calls for an immediate intervention by all stake holders.

He also noted with concern that local leaders, parents and guardians have abandoned children to beg along streets and others have become pick picketers.

Meanwhile the Officer in Charge Criminal Investigative Department Tororo Musa Zziwa Kazibwe cited an increase in child abuse during the holidays as a sign that parents are not doing much to protect the rights of their children.

He noted that child abuse cases like defilement have led to school dropouts advising the LCIs to be vigilant and work with police to end the vice.
