The Tororo District Education Officer Yona Gamus Doya has asked for immediate relocation of the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer that is currently located up stairs at the Tororo District Administration block popularly known as the white house.
Gamusi was speaking yesterday during a dialogue with the district council for disability at Teacher’s resource centre in Tororo municipality.
According to Gamusi, the CAO’s office should be relocated to the ground floor of the white house for easy accessibility by the PWDS.
Meanwhile in their council meeting, the PWDs demanded for the development of a disability centre, accessibility to public facilities for PWDs and support in both the formal and informal professional employment which they say should be addressed as soon as possible.
However EDYAC and justice centres blamed the district leaders for sabotaging their activities citing instances where district officials demand for facilitation when called upon to handle sensitization on community matters pioneered by NGOs
In a similar incident, Tororo RDC Martin Oroch has appealed to the general public not to isolate PWDs in the communities.
Oroch was speaking during PWDs stakeholders meeting at Teacher’s resource Tororo.
He said there is need to collect data on the exact number of PWDs in the district so as to know how they can be helped.
