40 bicycles have today been donated to 40 Gender Change Agents by the Tororo District Farmers Association (TODIFA) at DATIC courtesy of abi Trust organization. The donation is geared towards bridging the gender gap in production and marketing of farm produce in rural areas within Tororo District.
Speaking to our reporter, Chairperson TODIFA Vangi Ekirapa said the bicycles will help the Agents in their movements during supervisions in 12 operating Sub Counties within which they operate.
Ekirapa noted that women have on several occasions been suppressed by their partners especially at a time of marketing the harvests hence demoralizing them in farming yet they are the productive in the economic activity. She adds that this situation pushed TODIFA to come out with change Agents to bridge the gap between the two.
She also noted lack of viable seeds as the challenges faced by farmers adding that TODIFA researchers have come up with sere nut 9 and sere nut 11 ground nut varieties since the sere nut two lost viability in 2012.
She advised the change Agents to effectively perform their duties and urges farmers to look out for quality seeds and use modern methods of farming for proper yields.
