A section of BodaBoda cyclist operating within Nangonerea town council stage in Nangonera town council has petitioned the office of the area LC3 seeking for his intervention on the corruption scandal at their stage involving top management of their association.
Through their association, Nangongera bodaboda stage association, the bodaboda operators want the LCIII Pius Opio to intervene in the alleged embezzled 3 million shillings by the association leaders who reportedly withdrew money from the association account without the knowledge of the members.
The accused leaders include Charles Owori, chairperson, Oketch Makolathe vice, Moses Kisagala Osuna general secretary and Silus Ocheno the treasurer.
According to the association speaker Oboth Ovaala, the missing money is part of members’ registration fees as well as contributions from politicians and well-wishers.
As part of intervention, the Nangongera LCIII chairperson Pius Opio on Wednesday convened a meeting with the bodaboda riders and in the meeting, the members unanimously agreed to expel the leaders from the association as well as operating from the stage. They gave an ultimatum of 18 days to the expelled leaders to refund the money or face further actions by the group members.
In the same meeting, Oboth Ovaala was appointed as the group’s interim chairperson as they consult to streamline the association activities.
