Experienced midfielder Tony Mawejje has been recalled to boost the Uganda Cranes squad for the crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana.

Mawejje who joined Albania’s FK Tirana two months ago was included in coach Moses Basena’s squad he announced on Thursday.

The midfielder last featured for the Cranes during the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Gabon.The Cranes will host Black Stars of Ghana in a crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on October 7th at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

“We still have a chance to qualify for our first World Cup competition ever. We need to prepare well because the task ahead is huge,” coach Basena said.

The Cranes with seven points are second in Group E behind seven time African champions Egypt who have two points more.

Tanzania based defender Murushid Juuko and Khalid Aucho who have been suspended after accumulating two yellow cards were not invited. 

Ahmed Hussein, the Uganda AF communications manager said the squad that has been named will start training on September 27th and will also be involved in regional tour of Northern Uganda.
