Police in Tororo district yesterday burnt one tone of rotten fish worth 10 million shilling at the watch of municipal official who impounded the fish yesterday after several residents within Tororo municipality lodged complaints about the fish.
The rotten fish that was impounded in senior quarters in Tororo municipality was got loaded in a pick up being transported to the market for sell.
According to the Municipal Medical officer Dr. Godfrey Buyinze Kagwa, the residents upon realizing that they were buying rotten fish reported the matter to the eastern division health office who immediately contacted the relevant authorities.
Kagwa said that by the time of arrest they found a number of customers purchasing the rotten and multitude being sun dried in preparation for sale in the market.
Meanwhile the District fisheries officer Patrick Nkanga said that the impounded fish was immature and of low quality to be consumed by the people.
The unidentified fish dealer is currently on run though police is in his search
