East Fm investigates the causes of poor performance in Agwok Primary School.

Following public outcry on the poor performance of learners in Kirewa Sub County, Tororo District, our reporters visited Agwok Primary School and here it was discovered that the pupils are facing untold challenges that have affected the School’s performance in the last five years.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the pupils identified the lack of proper pit latrine, inadequate teaching staff, lack of sanitary towels and changing rooms for the girl children which forces them to stay home during menstruation, some drop out of the School while others get married.

The pupils also said that they have not been participating in co-curricular activities since their proper field was hired out for farming and later abandoned after parents protested against the decision. They also reported lack of sports equipment.

They also complained about some teachers whom they say use vulgar language while at school.

Meanwhile the Councilor representing Kirewa Sub County in Tororo district Andrew Okoth said the School generally has a problem of weak Administration noting that the Head Teacher has only reported to the school thrice this term.

However, The School’s Deputy Head Teacher Joab Makola who was present by press time said the old sports field was abandoned after a mutual Agreement between the School and the Church. This was to safeguard the children from the interferences by the road users since the school is located near a public road. About the limited staff, he revealed that some teachers retired and some were transferred have not been replaced.
