A total of 167 pupils who excelled in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) within Tororo Municipality and 10 from Rubongi Army in Rubongi Sub County yesterday were awarded mattresses as one of the ways of encouraging better performance in the area.

In a colorful function held at Lion Children’s Park, each pupil who managed to obtain Division one walked away with a mattress courtesy of Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament Yeri Appollo Ofwono and Crest Form Mattress Company. Best pupils and head teachers of best schools in municipality received cash prize.

Patrick Ereboi, Tororo Municipality Inspector of Schools said after assessment, Special Plan, Tororo Parents and Shalom primary schools emerged as best performing private schools while Rock View, Aturukuku and St Kizito were the best public schools.

Meanwhile Yona Gamusi Doya, Tororo District Education Officer in his speech blamed private schools for dumping non performing pupils to public schools leading to the high number of failures in public school.
